Sometimes all you want to do is work on a specific area of the body – but you’re not sure which exercises to use or how to use them.
Target Areas allows you to select the area you want to work on, and it will then provide you with the appropriate exercises.
The exercises will be set in 3 different levels from ‘beginner’ to ‘intermediate’ to ‘advanced’. You will also be able to follow an exercise through different levels.
There will be individual exercise videos which will give a detailed guide on how to do each exercise as well as short routines. It’s vital to learn how to do each exercise properly for the following reasons.
- It allows you to target the muscles you want to work on properly
- It prevents you over-straining muscles and injuring them
- It allows you to progress more rapidly in your goals
Gradual Improvement
When working on a specific area of the body, one of the biggest mistakes people make is to work too intensely on that area immediately. This could either involve carrying out exercises that are too hard, or doing too may repetitions of an exercise.
Building a foundation is vital in toning or developing any area of the body. Once the foundation has been built it is possible to gradually improve that area.
Using the Sport and Health app you will be able to increase the number of repetitions done or increasing gradually increase the difficulty of the exercise.
We will provide exercises for different parts of the body that will allow you to target specific areas of the body – developing them quickly, but without risk of injury. Have you ever tried to work on your stomach only to find that you strain your neck or back by attempting sit ups? We have the answer for you. We will provide you with exercises that will build core strength in the stomach muscles, whilst putting no strain on your neck or back. Once you have developed the base, we will give you progressively harder exercises for the same area of the body as well as giving you advice on the number of repetitions and sets you should carry out.
Different Reasons for Wanting to Target Areas
Frustration at not being able to tone or strengthen certain areas of the body – Some people try very hard to tone and strengthen all areas of their body, but often find one area they’re unable to affect. This can be determined by genetic factors but some people also find it difficult to activate muscles in certain areas
Getting beach and wedding ready – Most of us want to look our best when we’re going to be most on display. It’s human nature. However, this can lead to extreme dieting and over-training over short periods of time.
Increased confidence – Being unable to tone those annoying parts of the body that never seem to respond to our efforts, can decrease our confidence. It can also make buying certain items of clothing difficult. It’s not always wanting to look like a ‘Hollywood or Bollywood Star’ – it’s simply wanting to be confident and comfortable in our body.
Preventing injury – Targeting specific areas of the body can help prevent injury. Weaker muscle groups are more likely to strain or tear. Strengthening the muscle groups in that area reduces that risk
Rehabilitating from injury – After a bad injury or surgery, many people have followed specific Physiotherapy exercises to enable them to function to a base standard. However, it hasn’t allowed them to either become fully functional or progress in their fitness journey.
One example of this would be someone who has suffered an Achilles injury. The initial exercises have allowed them to walk without a boot or crutches, but the leg muscles have become weakened. Targeting the muscles around the Achilles could allow full functioning, but it could also allow a return to sport or a full exercise regime.
